Portable Long Service Leave (PLSL) is a new entitlement that allows eligible NSW workers in the community and disability sectors to accrue long service leave across multiple employers—so your service counts, even if you change jobs within the sector.
Why Portable Leave?
There is a high turnover of workers in the community and disability sector because:
-
The nature of work often involves working in high stress, crisis and trauma environments which can lead to burn out, and
-
Government funding in our sector is often linked to short-term funding contracts, and
-
At least 1 in 4 workers in the community sector are employed on short-term contracts.
Portable Long Service Leave will provide workers with a well-deserved break and reduce the turnover of workers leaving our industry.
